ROME WITH BERT is a guide, not an account. There is nothing to sign up for, no name or email is ever asked for, and nothing I collect can tell me who you are. This page covers the app and this website, and says exactly what leaves your phone.

Your location

If you allow it, the app uses your position to show you on the map. That happens on your phone and nowhere else: your location is never sent to me or to anybody. Say no and everything else in the app works just the same.

Crash reports

When the app crashes, it sends a report to Sentry so I can fix it: what went wrong, the screen you were on, the app version, and your phone's model and system version. No name, no location and no IP address go with it. Sentry stores these reports in the EU (Germany).

Anonymous usage counts

The app counts how it is used, so I know which parts of the guide are worth my time: which screens are opened, which places and photos are looked at, and which links are followed. It uses PostHog, hosted in the EU, and the counts are tied to a random number made up by the app when it is installed, never to you. PostHog works out the country a request comes from, then discards the address it came from. Nothing is shared with advertisers and nothing is used to follow you across other apps.

Photographs

Each place ships with one photograph inside the app. The others are downloaded from this website when you open them, like any web page loading a picture.

This website

The site counts visits with Umami, which I host myself. It sets no cookies, stores no IP address, and cannot recognise you from one visit to the next.

Your rights

Because none of this is linked to you, there is usually nothing I could find to show you or delete. If you have a question, or want to use your rights under the GDPR anyway, write to me at ciao@romewithbert.com. You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
