Off the Beaten Path
Bert’s take
EUR is a whole neighbourhood in the south of Rome, built for the Universal Exposition of 1942 — an exposition that never took place. The famous building here is the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, also called the Squared Colosseum, a very impressive rationalist block that is today the headquarters of the fashion house Fendi. I went in the middle of August on a bike ride, and it is a very long ride from the centre; you can also come out by metro if you want to explore the area. There is not much to do at the weekend, since it is mainly a business and office zone. I did find a very cool café though, Palombini, apparently an institution in the neighbourhood — a very nice, lively local spot.
